Namaste InnoEnergy - Mastering Renewable Energy
India plans to build and execute massive solar power projects as part of its renewable energy target of 175 GW by 2022. Furthermore, the country's solar potential is estimated to be higher than 750 GW with wind potential around 300 GW, where each GW could provide electricity to around 700,000 families. Now, take a look at the current scenario - India's total installed electricity generation capacity is around 310 GW and its coal based electricity generation capacity exceeds even the peak demand in India. However there are still around 300 M people waiting to get electricity as India faces challenges on coal supply shortage, transmission losses and poor financial health of the utilities.
Do we see an opportunity here? Can India bypass the constraints of coal supplies and long distance transmission losses to provide electricity in far-out villages with limited carbon emissions? India needs renewable energy specialists with technological as well as business acumen, who can critically assess suitability of different renewable technologies for a given location and scale.
I considered it imperative to build my professional career in a field where I can create a positive change in this world and be satisfied about my accomplishments. In August 2015, I resigned from my corporate life in a financial advisory firm and boarded a flight from New Delhi to Stockholm to start my journey of InnoEnergy Master in Renewable Energy.
Through this program, I got the opportunity to attend the world-class universities of Europe working closely with the companies and governmental organizations in renewables sector. In these two years of masters, I studied at KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), ESADE Business & Law School (Spain) and École Polytechnique (France). KTH offers opportunities to work in close links with EU commission and Swedish utilities like Vattenfall, and Polytechnique opens your door to be involved with French companies like EDF and Total.
With motivation to work for India's growth, I knew why I enrolled for the InnoEnergy's masters program and today, as I finish my courses, the perspectives have broadened and became more global. InnoEnergy has provided me a solid technical expertise with fresh business experiences which I can use for India or any other country. Now, it's time to seize the opportunity we started with!
